Tabriz Northwest Persia
Tabriz is the capital of East Azerbaijan Province in Persia’s northwest. With more than 1,5 million inhabitants, it is the fourth largest city in Iran, situated at an altitude of 1’363 meters above sea level. Under the leadership of the Sassanids, Timurids and Safawides, Tabriz has had a rich history and has been through many ups and downs.
In Tabriz itself and its suburbs, a variety of carpets are produced, ranging from basic to the finest knotting, from multifaceted designs with motifs of gardens, animals, and hunting scenes rugs to highly sophisticated artwork for decorating walls. The materials used depends on the type of the tabriz, but in general, lamb wool, silk and also cotton are the common materials which are applied.
